Why do men experience hair loss?
The most common cause of male baldness is alopecia areata called androgenetic alopecia. Hormonal and genetic factors are main reasons for it. People who have problems with hair loss in their families often face the same situation. Depending on hormonal and genetic factors, hair in the front area will fall out more easily, while hair on the back of the head is more resistant to hair loss.
What is hair transplant?
Hair loss is one of the most actual aesthetic problems faced by men, and hair transplantation is the most effective method for solving this problem today. In the history of hair transplantation, surgical techniques have been used to reduce the area or transplant the graft by taking round pieces with a diameter of about half a centimeter and placing them on the balding area. Thanks to some technological developments in recent years, techniques have made it possible to achieve a more essential, neat and natural result.
Hair transplant is the process of engraftment of individual hair follicles obtained from areas resistant to hair loss, such as the back of the head, by opening channels in areas where hair is absent. Today, the most preferred method is FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction), which brings very natural and satisfying results. In this method, the hair follicles are obtained one at a time and hair transplant is performed on rare areas. Hair roots can be taken from the back of the head as well as from the area between two ears. This procedure is performed under local anesthesia. Using the FUE method, up to 4500 hair follicles can be easily transplanted in one session. Because it is a surgical procedure performed in an operating theater with local anesthesia, it can be considered a tissue transplant. Inpatient stay is recommended for the procedure.
What awaits the patient who has undergone hair transplant?
Patients should avoid hitting the transplanted area. In the early period after the procedure, swelling can be observed on the forehead, and sometimes between the muscles. The swelling and edema gradually diminish and disappear after few days. Also during this period, crusts, small leaks and bleeding may appear. They also finish in 7-10 days. On the third day, the hair is washed thoroughly. The patient should continue to wash his hair with special creams and shampoos until the crusts drop. After the crusts fall off, the patient can return to their normal life. This usually take a period of about 10 days. The transplanted hair begins to grow in about 20 days. Then some of them fall out. From the second month, the roots begin to give new and healthy hair. Although most of the transplanted hairs grow in 6-8 months, they take their final shape in the first year.
How is the hair transplant process performed?
First, a treatment plan is prepared for the patient. It is evaluated from where will be hair collected? What technique will be used? To which areas hair follicles will be transplanted? All this is determined in advance. Hair is shortened according to plans and patterns. After preparation, a local anesthetic is applied to the scalp. Hair is removed from the donor area and prepared. After that, the patient is turned over and channels are opened in the anterior region to be transplanted. Direction, density and channel distances are very important for the result. The procedure takes 5 to 8 hours.

Although one session is sufficient for most patients, in some cases 2 or 3 sessions can be performed depending on the patient's expectations and response.
