Biochemistry Laboratory
Biochemistry is an interdisciplinary field that includes biophysics, molecular biology, structural biology, microbiology, pharmacology, and forensic sciences. Biochemistry studies are closely integrated with techniques from organic, inorganic, and analytical chemistry.
Biochemistry is the scientific field that studies biological processes at the molecular level. It is one of the most dynamic branches of science, focusing on the structure and interactions of nucleic acids, proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and other biomolecules, and their functions in living systems.
In biochemistry, many test groups are conducted, such as coagulation, vitamins, allergy hematology, hormones, tumor markers, autoantibodies, drugs and toxic substances, stimulation tests, screening tests, and urine and other body fluid analyses. When necessary, samples are sent to internationally accredited foreign laboratories to provide the most effective assistance in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Biochemistry research topics are highly diverse: protein purification and proteome analysis, enzymes and secondary metabolites obtained from microorganisms, enzyme immobilization and inhibition, synthesis and analysis of organic compounds, DNA binding, and molecular docking. Another area of focus is the synthesis of new drug precursors and chemical-based diagnostic materials for disease control.
The Emsey Hospital Biochemistry Laboratory operates 24/7. All tests are monitored daily using internal quality controls according to CLSI criteria. In addition, by regularly participating in external quality control programs, results are evaluated at both national and international levels. Processes are carried out in accordance with quality management systems. The Biochemistry Laboratory has successfully improved quality by collaborating with reference laboratories for special tests used in diagnosis, research, and follow-up.
